No-Sew T-Shirt Turbans

I stumbled across this no-sew stretchy headband on Pinterest.  David had just bagged up some t-shirts to take to Goodwill, so I snatched them!  It starts off like the no-sew infinity scarves we made a few years ago.  Except even easier! AND IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT!

You can make them as wide or as narrow as you'd like!

Super soft and takes about 5 minutes or less! Because David's t-shirts were a little thick, I think these would be good to wear in chilly weather.  They can double as earwarmers!

I kept the first batch as wide as I could get them for some of my "big-haired" peeps.  My hair is thick but shorter, so I may skinny up the next batch I make!

Now that I've started walking every day, and sweating a LOT while walking, I'm always on the lookout for a stretchy headband.  While they're easy to find, they can be pretty pricey.  Sooooo, I looked at Pinterest and found some patterns.

As with a lot of things on Pinterest, some details were left out because I guess they assumed some things are no-brainers.  So I'm learning as I go.

First of all a ball point needle is important for the sewing machine when dealing with knits.  Luckily, I learned this from the lady at JoAnn's before I started.  What I didn't learn ahead of time is that it's important to use a zigzag stitch with knits!  Otherwise, as with the headbands in the above pic, you can feel the stitches when you stretch the headband.  I did reinforce some of the stitching with zigzag, but not all.  It's not uncomfortable, but probably will snap before too long.  So my next batch with be zigzag all the way.

I was told the thread didn't matter that much, so I've been using all-purpose.  But someone else told me to use a cotton coated that will give a little.  hmmmm.  They're just headbands.  But we shall see.

I think some of my outdoorsy peeps will get headbands for Christmas!

I discovered the Needle Nook today in Wichita.  They kind of specialize in knits. I'm still playing around with the various kinds.  There are polyester/spandex, rayon/spandex, rayon/polyester, jersey, and who knows what else.  I'd love to have a knit that has great patterns and is ok to sweat in........breathable.  So far, I haven't found both in one knit.  But it'll still be a fun gift! And super easy to make! And washer/dryer safe.

I made some for my fitbit challengers and sent them via Laci.  Thx for modeling, girls!

I can get about 4-6 headbands out of 1/2 yard of fabric!  That's opposed to about $7-$15 for one headband at the sporting goods store!

I had some fabric left over that wasn't long enough for adult sizes.  So I made some for some of the little girls in our life! Nice and soft.

Ribbon Bookmarks

My MO friend, Jackie, started making these wonderful bookmarks out of ribbons and jewelry pieces. (those are hers above).  After she sent me one, I decided to try it.

I've never gotten into jewelry-making due to lack of space.  But I just bought some pliers and used some homemade earrings that I never wear.  I did buy the jewelry clamps to put on the ends.  Laura Lee will get these 2.  Fun gift idea and something to do with all the extra ribbon we always end up with! I like the idea of giving one to anyone who loans me a book!

August 2016:  The DC Booth volunteers and staff got together and made some ribbon bookmarks.  They turned out great.  I showed them how to use recycled greeting cards to add a gift tag to their little baggies if they want to give them as gifts.  Ashley added a wonderful touch to that -- she cut a piece of the gift card to size and put it inside the baggie.  This gives the bag a sweet background and then it can be tagged as well.  And Jerri taught us her version of bookmarks using stretchy cord.  Those turned out really pretty!

Suitcase Table

We decided to get rid of our couch in the rv so we'll feel like we have more space.  The only problem was that the couch supplied storage room for all my crafts.  Soooo, we went on the hunt for some sort of chest to store my stuff.  As we were walking around a flea market in Derby, KS I saw something that I'd seen on Pinterest.  A "luggage table".

We found 2 different sizes in some blue vintage luggage.  I ripped out the lining in one of them. But the other looked like it'd never been used and smelled fine, so I left it in there.

We picked out some paint to go with the inside of the camper and David took care of painting them for me.  He added legs to the larger one.  We considered just finding a small bedroom luggage stand for them.  But we really like the look with the legs.  The smaller case just sits on top of the larger one.
It's a perfect fit in the corner under a window.

I bought some flannel and relined the one suitcase that had the yucky lining.  I used Tacky Glue.

 Now we're on the lookout for a round vintage travel bag to go on top!

Wavy Eyelet Scarf

This is for another one of my Pay it Forward peeps. I used some more Haze yarn from Queensland. It's much browner than the pic shows, and has the prettiest natural colors in it.  Love this pattern. Almost has a cabled look. The scarf will need to be blocked to flatten it out. 

Loopy Twist

I knitted this for one of my "pay it forward" peeps! I chose this pattern because the pic reminded me of Noro Windowpane----which I love but I can't knit because it's Crochet! I did learn how to twist stitch, though.

It ended up not really looking like Windowpane, but I love it anyway! Tempted to keep it for myself. But looking forward to seeing my new friend in it.

I used Haze yarn from Queensland. So soft!
